Ergonomic design for computer egronomics is what sets apart the monitor arms, keyboard arms, wire management, Nova Retrofit kits system and computer office ergonomic accessories from KE Hardware. Enclosed is a specific list of how the Nova Retrofit Kit aids in computer ergonomics, as well as a general list of ergonomic office computing to-dos. Finally we have some links to other office ergonomics sites. Eyestrain, neck-aches, backaches, and dry eyes are common problems experienced by computer users. This patented monitor placement technology encourages a healthy, productive posture, which can help alleviate many of today’s workplace ailments.
*Your Eyes* Why does this system place the monitor below the horizontal line of sight? Because that position conforms to the way our eyes work. The downward gaze is our visual system’s natural way of viewing close work. Our “normal line of sight” varies with viewing distances. When we look at objects far away, our eyes are most comfortable viewing them straight ahead, horizontally. On the other hand as we look at closer objects, we strain our eyes less by viewing them at a lower angle, i.e. reading a book. Studies have concluded that the viewing angle when our eyes are at the most comfortable resting point is between 32 - 40º and that the viewing distance should be at least 30” away.
*Dry Eyes* A thin layer of tears covers the surface of the eye. This layer dries out when exposed to the air. As we blink, our eyelids spread a new layer of tears. Researchers found that tears evaporate at a faster rate when looking straight ahead or up at a monitor because more of our eye’s surface is exposed to the air. Our eyelids are partially closed when we look downward, which reduces the surface of the eyeball exposed to the atmosphere, thus helping to keep the eyes moist.
*Knee Space* Provide adequate depth between your knees and the recessed monitor carriage. With the keyboard tray pulled out, there is even more room.
*Neck Posture* With a lower monitor position you can hold your head erect and direct your eyes downward. When that posture becomes tiring (as eventually it will), you can bend your neck downward in a wide range of comfortable neck postures. These temporary changes of neck posture can relieve neck strain with little or no visual discomfort.
*Ergonomic Seating and Work Surface Height* You should use an ergonomic chair and have a work surface which is adjustable. Proper work surface height and chair adjustment is important to allow comfortable and efficient positioning of the upper arms, forearms, hands, legs, and feet. |
